Atlanta: Center for Business and Culture

Less than ten miles north of the GICC, Atlanta is the capital city and the cultural and economic center of the state of Georgia. The Atlanta metropolitan area, which includes the GICC, is the ninth largest metropolitan area in the U.S.

Begun as a settlement at the intersection of two railroad lines, Atlanta is a major business city and the primary transportation hub of the Southeastern United States (by highway, railroad, and air). Nearby Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been rated the world’s busiest airport since 1998.

Atlanta is the world headquarters of corporations such as The Coca-Cola Company, Delta Air Lines, Turner Broadcasting, The Home Depot, AT&T Mobility and UPS. As of 2010, it is the seventh most visited city in the United States, welcoming over 35 million domestic and overseas visitors per year.
